Magazine Cover Design Practice

I got bored at home so I thought i'd practice more on making a magazine cover. I didn't use photoshop for this as I do not have it installed on my computer but I still managed to have a pretty decent outcome.

Magazine Covers - Demi Lovato

First image I was going to use. (Too wide and not big enough)

Second image I was going to use. (Too small)

Follows a black and white colour scheme. Keeping it classy and effective. All text is the same to follow a professional looking cover. The main image is nice and big to stand out and attract all fans of the celebrity and hopefully bring them into buying the magazine. The text is kept big and bold at the top to stand out but smaller at the bottom to focus more on the image. I’d range this magazine for teens up to people in their 30’s because a majority of teenagers would look up to the celebrity on the cover (in this case Demi Lovato) and it would attract them more than an adult would. I’d range it for men and women but mainly women because the celebrity is more commonly liked by women. It’s styled for people who are into pop/pop rock music.

Follows a main colour scheme of black and white, simple but really effective. Makes the main image almost blend in more with the style of the magazine, giving it that mysterious look. The title is big and bold, still black to keep with the theme. The rest of the text is kept fairly small to focus more on the image and the most important sections of the magazine cover. They do it so that when someone sees this magazine in the store, it’s easier to notice the celebrity/celebrities on the cover and they will be more interested in buying it. I’d range this magazine probably for 30-40 year olds because The Cure are quite common for that age range due to when their music was around, also because they are roughly just a bit older than that themselves. I’d say it’s for both men and women who are into mysterious sort of music.

Follows a colour scheme of black, white and yellow. Classic scheme but really effective. Text all the same or similar fonts to look professional and neat. Main image nice and big to stand out towards the eye but still keeps you in line with the information on the cover. I would attract this more to people from teens to 40’s because they are the age group that majorly like the celebrities (in this case Hayley Williams) and are into the genre of rock/alternative/rock pop. I would associate it with men and women but mainly women as more women tend to tag along to Paramore for example because of Hayley.
